Requests for page protection
Shortcuts:
WP:RFPP
WP:RFP
WP:RPP

This page is for requesting that a page, image or template be fully protected, semi-protected, move-protected or unprotected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection is usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars.

After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert back to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Instructions

If you would like to request a page to be protected or unprotected, please follow the following steps:

  1. Add a level 4 header at the TOP of either the protection or unprotection list and place one of the templates from the table below within the header.
(for example, for an article use: ===={{la|ARTICLE}}====)
  2. If you are requesting protection, place the type of request (full protection, semi-protection, or move protection) and a brief reason for your request below your header. If you are requesting unprotection, it is almost always a good idea to ask the protecting admin first before listing a page here.
  3. Please do not add arbitrary requests for a protection expiry time to your request, or request indefinite protection arbitrarily.
    • If there is a reason for a page to be protected for a certain amount of time, such as protecting a usertalk page until the user is unblocked, please make this clear.
    • If you are requesting indefinite semi-protection, be aware that it is only applied to articles with endemic and endless vandalism problems which multiple increasing periods of temporary semi-protection have failed to stop.
    • Note that different expiry times can now be set for edit and move-protections, so an article can, for example, be semi-edit-protected for a week and full-move-protected indefinitely.
  4. Sign your request with four tildes ~~~~ and save.
  • Note that this is not a venue for continuing an argument from elsewhere. If a request contains excessive arguing, is being used for edit-warring or content disputes, contains personal attacks or uncivil comments, or any other unrelated discussion, it will be removed from this page.

Starship_Troopers_3:_Marauder (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

semi-protection An anonymous user from IPs starting with 83. repeatedly cut-and-pastes reviews from several websites, and does so in ways that provide a non-NPOV, by quoting only positive aspects, and by deleting existing evidence of mixed reception to the film. Moreover, after multiple editors have attempted to place cleanup and sourcing tags, the same anonymous editor appears to come back and revert the pages to the slanted viewpoint version, as well as deleting the cleanup and citation tags. Hope one of you can help on this, thanks in advance. JasonDUIUC (talk) 19:51, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week. After 1 week the page will be automatically unprotected. Steven Walling (talk) 21:31, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

semi protection Significant attention from media on the player as a missed goal opportunity is resulting in vandalism from multiple sources. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/7661857.stm at 16:24 for the source of the attention. Semi-protection would help to ensure that new edits are more reasoned. Time period is naturally administrator discretion, though I shouldn't think it would need to be permanent. Tartan Nutter (talk) 16:37, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days. After 3 days the page will be automatically unprotected. SoWhy 16:50, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

indefinite move-protection , Since this is a highly-used template, I'm requesting this to be indefinitely move-protected to prevent vandalism. It is still semi-protected, though.SchfiftyThree (talk!) 15:47, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

If you simply want to make spelling corrections or add information to a protected page that is not disputed, and you are not involved in any disputes there, consider simply adding {{Editprotected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. See the list of current {{Editprotected}} requests.

If you do want a page that exists unprotected, please try and ask the protecting admin first before making a request here.

Check here if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Fraser Forster (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-Protection: This article had been deleted three times due to Forster having never played a league game. He played today for Stockport though and hence an article can now be created according to the sportperson minimum guidelines. User:Doberman Pharaoh 20:08, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Declined Please come up with a draft article in a subpage of your userspace first (such as User:Doberman Pharaoh/Forster or something similar). Once you've done so, return here or contact me and I'll lift the prot. -Jéské (v^_^v Kacheek!) 19:29, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

British Isles (|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-Protection: This article has been swamped with IP accounts, all remarkably similar. The page is actually fully protected right now, but I think making it semi-protected might solve most of the trouble. ðarkuncoll 00:10, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Declined – There is not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection at this time. If there's significantly more disruptive activity in the future, consider relisting.. For the record, this report is misplaced (note it is under requests for unprotection). Tan | 39 15:27, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
Note: Since it's currently fully protected, I would hope that administrators have not been vandalizing it! I think the request is for the article to be "unprotected" down to semi-protected status. — Satori Son 00:01, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
My mistake. Page protection reduced to indefinite semi. Tan | 39 18:51, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

When making requests here, either:
  • Provide a good reason for a substantial edit to a protected page. These are only done in exceptional circumstances, or when there is very clear consensus for an edit and continued protection. Please link to the talk page where consensus was reached.
  • Demonstrate that there is a clear dispute over a protected page, and that a specific dispute tag would be appropriate to add. Please link to the talk page where the dispute exists.

Note: Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add {{Editprotected}}, {{Editsemiprotected}} or {{Request edit}} to the article's talk page if you would like an inconsequential change rather than requesting it here, though most of these should simply wait for unprotection.

Semi-protection - Anon. IP trying to impose undue weight without discussion. There's room to also note him about WP:3RR. JaakobouChalk Talk 10:32, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Declined, consider dispute resolution. SoWhy 10:44, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
I figured this would be simple since it's an editor with less than 50 edits, edit-warring without discussion. How am I supposed to use dispute resolution if he won't use the talk page? JaakobouChalk Talk 10:50, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
You are both at the brink of a WP:3RR violation, I suggest reporting there, if they revert again. Report user to WP:AIV if they continue after being warned to discuss changes. Protecting this article would not comply with the protection policy regarding semi protection. SoWhy 11:00, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
