A.D.A.M., Inc. (changed from adam.com in 20011) is a company providing health and medical information. One of their best known clients is MedlinePlus, for which they supply many illustrations stemming from A.D.A.M.’s Health Illustrated Encyclopedia. The acronym stands for Animated Dissection of Anatomy for Medicine, referring to an early CD-ROM product that allowed virtual dissection.2

A.D.A.M., Inc. has its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. The firm has little over 100 employees3 and generated a net income of $3.9 million in 2007.4

Company CEO is Kevin S. Noland. Their Chief Medical Officer is Alan Greene, MD, a member of the Stanford University School of Medicine. A.D.A.M., Inc. is a founding member of Hi-Ethics (or Health on the Internet Ethics), a coalition of health information websites aiming to set quality standards for online health information. Alan Greene is also president of Hi-Ethics.5

The company has won several awards, such as the Dr. Frank J. Netter Award to Forbes List of Best Small Companies in U.S., Fortune's List of America's Fastest-Growing Small Public Companies, and several World Wide Web Health Awards. Their website is accredited by URAC (the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission).

Competitors include HealthGate Data, HLTH Corp and WebMD Health.4
